The FIFA world cup 2018 faceoff is about to begin between Croatia and France in Sunday. Croatia makes it to the final. There first appearance in one.
Even the average soccer fan knows just how stacked France is but we just can’t take our eyes off from Croatia, At least after the match with England.
But which has the edge when it comes to the different lines and more? Let’s break the matchup down piece by piece
Croatia reached the semi-finals by overcoming Russia on penalties after a draining 2-2 draw over 120 minutes in Sochi.
It was the end of the road for the tournament hosts who had gone further than most people had expected.
An uneventful first half exploded into life when Denis Cheryshev scored another spectacular goal. But Russia’s advantage lasted for just eight minutes, with Mario Mandzukic setting up Andrej Kramaric for the equaliser.
Croatia dominated possession but could not make their superior quality count. Ivan Perisic went closest in the second half when his shot hit a post and flashed across the goalmouth.
In extra time, Russia tired for the first time in the tournament and Croatia took advantage from a corner to take the lead and
Brazil-born Mario Fernandes, the last South American left in the tournament, dragged Russia back into the game with a late equaliser. But after Fyodor Smolov had fluffed his opening spot-kick, Fernandes blasted his shot wide to hand the initiative to Croatia, leaving Iave Rakitic to calmly convert the winning penalty.
France has reached the semis basically overlooked. Because we don’t have a fan base like Brazil, Spain, Germany, England, Argentina and so on but we have the best team. I’ll name several most important reasons why Les Blues are the main favorites to win it all:
They are one of the favorites right now to win the World Cup, especially because teams like Germany, Spain, Argentina, and Portugal have been knocked out. If France beats Uruguay, they will have to play the winner of the Brazil-Belgium match in the semi-final, which will be a very interesting game, spurring two top-notch teams against one another. And if France wins and makes it to the final, I do believe that they will win the World Cup, as the other side of the bracket is not nearly as strong as the one France is in (England, Croatia, and Colombia, to name some of the best in that portion of the bracket).
And at the final, we got more treat to eyes and no one knows who will shine at the final, may the best team wins. All the luck to both the team.
